Our mission is to help children by providing something truly creative and fun (custom care packages), to work hard at going the extra mile, to offer friendly, old-fashioned service and, in all of this, to encourage our employees and customers to carry this attitude with them into their own homes and communities.
Our history begins at camp. We've been building custom care packages since 1990, when Virginia Teel started the The Wrinkled Egg® in Flat Rock, North Carolina. From the very beginning, our care packages have benefited from our staff's experiences in the summer camp industry. Virginia worked as a counselor for nine years with Camp Green Cove and her husband, Starr, worked for over twenty years with camps Greystone, Falling Creek and Camp Arrowhead. Our support staff includes many former campers and counselors, bringing together a company with a true gift for providing something special for children and summer camps.
Custom means built from scratch. We get to know you and your camper before we build your package and tailor our care packages to suit your camper's interests. When we say "custom," we mean it - our staff builds each package from the ground up by using our very special inventory of fun, educational and camp approved toys and gifts.
Our business has grown considerably over the years. The Wrinkled Egg® now includes a lot more than care packages for summer camp - we manage this online store, build care packages for a variety of occasions, and operate a wonderful and eclectic retail store in Flat Rock. In the store you'll find a selection of North Carolina folk art, a brick oven bakery, a children's clothing store, lots of camp memorabilia and much more. This is your invitation - come visit!
Finally, we believe children are a priceless treasure. We want to help children to have great summers and positive childhood experiences, so The Wrinkled Egg® gives a portion of all sales to organizations and programs providing for children and families in need.
